Career Opportunity: Women of the World Program Coordinator

Women of the World is a volunteer peer leadership program that provides training to immigrant women and helps them to develop a broad understanding of community so that they may help others work toward successful integration. The Coordinator will identify immigrant communities in the London area that would benefit from peer led groups and develop, facilitate and evaluate leadership training curriculum that will assist identified peer leaders to learn and share information with their communities. In addition to coaching, mentoring, and supervising Peer Leaders, you will provide supervision and learning opportunities to students. You will be a member of the Immigrant & Ethno-cultural Programs Team.

The Successful Candidate Will Be:

  • Working collaboratively with community stakeholders to create safe environments which facilitate access to services by culturally and linguistically diverse communities
  • Developing and facilitating leadership training for immigrant women
  • Developing and evaluating curriculum that will assist identified peer leaders to learn and share information with their communities to assist and enhance the integration process
  • Coaching, mentoring and supervising peer leaders
  • Being a liaison, promoting health literacy, documenting and informing existing health and social service systems to become more appropriate to their service populations
  • Advocating on behalf of clients to ensure that they receive the community supports, health and social services to which they are entitled
  • Providing supervision and learning opportunities to students

Position Requirements

  • Knowledge of Health Determinants, Health Promotion and Adult Education principles
  • Experience developing and implementing outreach strategies to a culturally diverse community
  • Expert knowledge of issues of immigrant communities related to successful integration
  • Understanding of and sensitivity towards the belief systems of other groups, especially as they affect health/illness behaviour
  • Cross-cultural experience
  • Knowledge of collaborative decision making models, as well as strength-based and empowerment based philosophy of health promotion and community development
  • Project planning, development, implementation and evaluation skills
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary, diverse/multicultural team
  • Fluency in another language is an asset
