We had an information booth, talked about our new HepC Care Team, screened community members for diabetes, taught dance lessons (thanks to the AMAZING Dynamic Dozen performers) and enjoyed a poetry reading by members of our Grit Uplifted Creative Writing Program.  Here are a few pictures from that event:

The youth lead the various aspects of planning the event as well as the sewing of the clothing, auditioning the models, working within the budget, buying supplies, promotion etc.

Gifts were made by local youth through Youth Opportunities Unlimited. We enjoyed the opportunity to hear a bit more about the various roles they play and to socialize outside of our regular work environment.

An Evening with Dave Bidini

On Thursday November 11, 2010, the Health Centre hosted Canadian musician, journalist and author Dave Bidini at The Aeolian Hall. Dave read from his newest book, “Home and Away: In Search of Dreams at the Homeless World Cup of Soccer.” Many parallels could be drawn between the lives of those who played at the World Homeless Cup in Melbourne in 2008, and the clients served through the Health Centre’s Health Outreach for People who are Homeless Program.
