Part-time Opportunity: Leader, SHAC After School Program

Our Child, Youth and Family Team seeks a part time After School Program Leader for the Snack, Homework, Activity and Craft (SHAC) program. Working alongside another Program Leader, you facilitate various activities that promote healthy eating, exercise, positive personal development and wellness. You will engage and support elementary school-aged children and their families in the community. Additional key responsibilities of this role include identifying program needs, developing delivery plans, facilitating education and recreation activities, as well as assisting with supervision of children.

The Program Leaders works collaboratively with youth, parents, community partners, health promoters, schools, police and youth service providers to develop effective service delivery plans that ensure that children have access to programs, services and opportunities needed for healthy development.

This part time, contract position will continue until approximately June 25, 2015, and will work 20 hours per week.


  • Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline from a community college or university and/or experience in Human Services with an emphasis on working with Children and/or Youth;
  • Two plus years of experience working in a community setting;
  • Ability to work with children and youth in a respectful and empowering manner;
  • Strong program planning, implementation, facilitation and evaluation skills;
  • Ability to work with diverse communities with respect, confidentiality, sensitivity, competence, creativity, innovation, cultural understanding, and non-judgement;
  • Ability to initiate various approaches to problem solving with realistic goals;
  • Commitment to working as part of a team of program volunteers and other Health Centre staff;
  • Strong computer skills, including the use of MS Office Products.
