Warning for Injection Drug Users

We have some critical health information for injection drug users. Please share with your friends and others in the community:

The Middlesex-London Health Unit is investigating an increase of Group A Streptococcus (GAS) infections in the London area. Some of the people with GAS were known to use injection drugs.

GAS can cause:
• Abscesses and skin infections
• infection of the muscles
• blood infections, meningitis
• pneumonia
• flesh eating disease
• toxic shock syndrome
• death

Watch Out For:
• Fever, chills, sweats, dizziness
• Redness, swelling and pain at the injection site
• Headaches, vomiting
• Difficulty breathing

If you have any of these symptoms, please, please see a health care professional right away. A serious infection can lead to amputation,
admission to intensive care or death.
