Love is in the air at Argyle this week. Did you know that the Argyle Mall opened in 2 phases? The first phase opened on June 22 1966 and included Woolco, a supermarket, a bank & a branch of the public library. The second phase opened the same year on August 17th and included 32 stores. Times have changed, but the mall is still open and services not only the local community but draws patrons from all of London and surrounding communities like Woodstock and Ingersoll for its variety of stores and services.
When the new Woolco Department Store opened in the Argyle Shopping Centre, At 119,000 sq feet it was the largest of the 11 Woolco stores currently open at the time in Canada. Comprised of 65 departments with goods ranging from personal items to automotive. Included within this range was a large record department, with a wide choice of music. Many records were sold at budget prices.
