These protests are being organized under the hashtag #1MillionMarch4Children.
The protests also support recent legislation passed in Saskatchewan and New Brunswick which demand that teachers advise parents if their children request to be called by a different name or pronoun. While these groups claim to be in support of ‘parental rights’, the protests are actually anti-2SLGBTQIA+ hate rallies which aim to eliminate Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) curriculum and policies from Canadian schools.
Politicians across Canada continue to threaten the human rights of 2SLGBTQIA+ people by failing to support 2SLGBTQIA+ positive legislation.
Sadly, these politicians are actively enabling these anti-2SLGBTQIA+ protests to occur in locations across Canada, with large events planned in major cities.
There is no place for hate in Canada.
The Health Centre is proud of our programs that directly support the 2SLGBTQIA+ community including Trans and Non-Binary Health, the Options Clinic (HIV & STI testing, sexual health consultation), MyCare (HIV treatment program for individuals who face barriers to healthcare), and the Youth Outreach Program. We offer a safe space, we respect pronouns, and we value the worth of all individuals.
We hope that most Canadians will show their true colours and demonstrate that love always wins. Progress continues when we remember that hate has no place in Canadian society. For information about anti-protests, please follow the Pride London Festival for updated information on locations and times.
To our colleagues, friends and family members that join anti-rally protests: we hope that you do so mindful of your safety and that of others.
And to the 2SLGBTQIA+ children and youth: the spotlight is on you today. Hard as it may seem, it will make you stronger tomorrow.
You are loved.
