Safer Substance Use Kits
The Health Centre serves various populations and we offer a variety of health care options to meet the needs of our clients. As part of our comprehensive care plans, we offer safer substance use kits to clients who use drugs. We are looking for volunteers to help assemble these kits. Join our team to learn about community-based, life-saving strategies to engage a person in their substance use from a harm reduction and health equity lens while spending time with a fun group of people each week.
Time commitment: one 3-hour shift weekly in the evenings (659 Dundas Street)
NELCE JPII Garden
NELCE is a resident-based, action-oriented community group focused on strengthening and improving the community of Northeast London. One of their spring projects is to create a community garden at JPII Secondary School. We are looking for volunteers, who live in Northeast London, who can care for the garden which includes preparing the soil, weeding, watering, and planting vegetables. Join our team to learn about food security while rolling up your sleeves and trying out your green thumb.
Time commitment: one 2-hour shift weekly available in the afternoons and evenings (1300 Oxford St E)
Communications
As part of the Health Centre’s inclusion and anti-oppression work, we organize monthly social media campaigns to raise awareness about issues that impact the populations that we serve. Examples include Transgender Day of Visibility, World Diabetes Day, Seniors Month, World Refugee Day, etc. We are looking for volunteers who like graphic design and storytelling to create posts for social media. Join our team to learn about larger social movements in our community.
Time commitment: 1-hour weekly meeting (659 Dundas St), 3-5 hours working from home
Integrated Programs
One of the populations the Health Centre serves is people who are experiencing homelessness. This spring, we will be introducing new programming within our Health Outreach site through a community-building model, to support this marginalized population. We are looking for volunteers to help staff run programs, engage clients in their participation, and assist with basic needs support. Join our team to learn about homelessness in our city and to make a difference in the lives of others.
Time commitment: one 3-hour shift weekly 9-12 or 1-4 per week (659 Dundas St)
